If you are tired of seeing fine lines and wrinkles on your face whenever you look in the mirror, it might be time to contact Drip Med Spa and ask about our Juvederm Ultra treatment. Juvederm Ultra is an incredibly popular treatment that uses FDA-approved injectables to reduce the appearance of creases and facial wrinkles. The procedure is ideal for treating moderate to severe facial wrinkles. While it produces results that last between nine months and one year, the boost in confidence and satisfaction with your appearance goes far beyond that.

While Juvederm Ultra is a very safe and pain-free procedure, it still helps to know what to expect from it. Let’s go over exactly what a Juvederm Ultra treatment is, how you can prepare for it, and what you can expect while you recover from it.

What Is Juvederm?

Juvederm is a line of cosmetic injectables that are designed to smooth the skin and treat wrinkles and fine lines. It’s often used to treat wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, but it can help to increase the volume of your cheeks and lips. Like most dermal fillers, Juvederm uses a naturally-occurring substance called hyaluronic acid that is readily accepted and absorbed by the human body. Hyaluronic acid reduces the signs of aging by stimulating collagen production. Your body’s natural collagen production slows down as you age, so stimulating its production gives you natural-looking results that can last for up to one year. Our Juvederm Ultra products also contain the local anesthetic lidocaine to give you a comfortable and pain-free treatment.

Juvederm Ultra is only one of several products in the Juvederm line. It’s the product that is most often used to treat more severe wrinkles as well as lip augmentation.

Preparing for Your Juvederm Ultra Appointment

The most common complication with Juvederm is bruising, which is a risk with any dermal filler. To reduce the risk of bruising, try to avoid taking medications that can thin your blood one week before your appointment. This includes Aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs such as Aleve and Motrin, and blood-thinning supplements such as garlic and fish oil. You should also stay away from alcohol for one to two days before your procedure. Applying a cold compress to your face for five to 15 minutes before your procedure can also help restrict blood vessels and prevent bruising.

What to Expect During Your Juvederm Ultra Procedure

Drip Med Spa can perform your procedure in our office. The procedure itself takes anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour depending on your treatment area and the results you wish to achieve. Most procedures take less than an hour.
The Juvederm filler is injected under the skin in the treatment area using a fine needle. Our Juvederm Ultra products contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic similar to novocaine. This will numb the area being treated in as little as a few seconds to ensure maximum comfort and a pain-free procedure.

After the Procedure

Juvederm Ultra injections are provided as an outpatient procedure, so unlike other more invasive cosmetic operations, there is very little downtime after your procedure. Most of our patients can resume their normal activities immediately after having the procedure, although you may want to avoid doing anything too strenuous right away. You should also avoid touching or massaging the treated area for the first day after the procedure.
You may experience some swelling after your Juvederm procedure is complete. This is totally normal and will go away within 24 to 48 hours. For the first two weeks after your procedure, avoid too much exposure to heat and cold. Wear sunscreen on your face if you spend a lot of time outdoors, and avoid products that contain alcohol.
You should start seeing your final results about two weeks after your treatment. These results will last between 90 days and one year, although some treatments can be effective for up to 18 months.

Possible Complications

Although Juvederm Ultra is safe and relatively pain-free, no medical procedure is without risk. Side effects of receiving this treatment may include redness, swelling, and tenderness around the injection site. These side effects are mild and will usually go away within 48 hours. There is also a risk of infection and the possibility of an allergic reaction to the lidocaine in the filler, although this is rare.
Overall, Juvederm Ultra has been shown to be safe and effective for just about anybody, particularly patients in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. There are some cases when it is wise to postpone your treatment, though. For example, those with a sinus infection should wait until the infection goes away before the treatment can proceed. Those with excessive scarring or hyperpigmentation in the face should also reconsider treatment as the procedure can make these issues worse. Finally, anyone who has shown to be allergic to lidocaine should not undergo this treatment.
