What is HRT?
What is HRT?
Hormone replacement therapy is a treatment administered to individuals who have a hormonal imbalance. The most common culprit being low testosterone levels or “low T” in men. Hormonal replacement therapy for men is meant to restore that balance by bringing back our body’s testosterone to its optimal amount thus restoring the male hormone cycle. This is usually done by injecting the right amount of artificial testosterone to the body.
HRT vs TRT?
HRT vs TRT??
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) are both types of medical interventions that involve the administration of hormones to address hormonal imbalances in the body. However, they differ in terms of the hormones involved and the conditions they are intended to treat
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT):
Scope: HRT is a broader term that encompasses the replacement or supplementation of various hormones, including estrogen and progesterone in women, and testosterone in men.
Purpose: HRT is commonly used to alleviate symptoms of menopause in women, such as hot flashes, mood swings, and osteoporosis. In men, it can be prescribed to address hormone imbalances associated with aging or other medical conditions.
Hormones involved: For women, HRT may include estrogen, progesterone, or a combination of both. In men, it may involve testosterone supplementation.
Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT):
Scope: TRT specifically focuses on the replacement or supplementation of testosterone, primarily in men.
Purpose: TRT is prescribed to men who have clinically low levels of testosterone, a condition known as hypogonadism. It is intended to address symptoms such as fatigue, low libido, muscle loss, and mood swings associated with low testosterone levels.
Hormones involved: TRT involves the administration of testosterone, which can be delivered through injections, patches, gels, or other methods.
WHy is testosterone important to our body?
Testosterone — also known as “the male hormone” — is responsible for a lot of the things that make men appear masculine. It is responsible for muscle mass, hair growth, sex drive, and even mental focus.
The normal testosterone level for males is around 270-1070 ng/dL with an average of 679 ng/dL. This, of course, changes depending on the age of the person. A normal male’s testosterone levels peak at the age of 20, and then gradually decrease afterward.
Male who’re in the age 40 and above are said to lose 1-3% of testosterone each passing year.
